Johnny X: Xperia PosterBoy

While cell phone companies have moved from giving their phones boring model numbers to cool names, some phones deserve their marketing to go one step further. We’ve seen that with phone’s like the Samsung Instinct (Movie Trailers) and LG Dare (Dare To Touch One) and the Xperia it the latest to join this breed.

Johnny X is a fictional character created by Sony Ericsson that is a regular guy super hero cast in the same light as James Bond. The catch? He uses his Xperia to survive the challenges that true hero faces.

Xperia in October, SDK Now!

After all the craziness of the Xperia being delayed, delayed and… WAIT! Sony Ericsson got tired of the “delayed” rumors and has said the Xperia WILL launch in both the United Kingdom and United States in October.

Now the rumors are that they’ll be officially unveiling the Xperia in a product in about 2 weeks from now. Because of all the back and forth of rumors, we’re unsure if the latest webcast rumor is true or not. But stay tuned!

And in other news, there is an Xperia SDK now released that will allow for customization of the Xperia UI. That’s a pleasant deviation from the typical phone platform and this is further proof that Sony Ericsson is putting in the time and effort to make the Xperia one of the best devices on the market.

Furthermore, the SDK launch gives a good indication that the Xperia IS just around the corner… so stay tuned!

Sony Ericsson Xperia Gets Delayed til January

Ok sports fans, this is not exactly the news you all wanted to hear especially after the huge review Smape.Com just released earlier this week. A Sony Ericsson representative has confirmed that the Sony Ericsson Xperia will be delayed until January due to problems with the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.

Sony Ericsson originally said it would be released in the second half of this year although rumors have been circulating that something was delaying the launch.

This is a little disheartening to hear considering there are a number of other manufacturers releasing phones that will run Windows Mobile 6.1 without issue.

Thats the last thing I ever expected but lo and behold it happened, I am sincerely sorry to anyone that was affected, annoyed or frustrated as a result of the site being offline.

We have talked to our provider to make it sure it doesnt happen again.

Xperia Gets September Launch Date

The wait is over.

Well… the wait on how long the wait will be is over. Mobile software retailer Handango accidentally leaked information on the Sony Ericsson Xperia’s release date in a message meant exclusively for developers.

Unfortunately for Sony, but thankfully for the rest of us, developers have access to the interwebs and the information quickly spread to the entire tech enthusiast industry. Here’s a glimpse of Handango’s tip-off booboo:

Hands on With the Sony Ericsson Xperia

After all of the hype and dummy phone’s everyone has seen in the news, Dieter Bohn of WMExperts finally got some time to poke and prod the Xperia at CTIA.

According to Dieter, the phone’s hardware is “simply top notch” and boasts snappy performance and features that can only be truly appreciated in person. He goes on to say that the Xperia is less wide than the Blackjack II and that it “feels remarkably thin for all the power they’ve got under the hood.”.

The phone touts a clean, sharp and bright 800 x 480 wide screen display that makes its signature Panel system run smooth and crisp. More information about the Panel system revealed that there are preset panels similar Mac OS Leopard Spaces that allow you to make apps and even web pages there own panels.

Along with its impressive display, the Xperia also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with Autofocus that allows additional features like moving the autofocus box into the viewfinder eliminating the need to center the image in the camera.

The phone is slated to be released at the second half of this year despite rumors that it would be delayed until 2009. Sony Ericsson has not released the carrier(s) it intends to release the Xperia to but since it is a GSM phone, we can expect that it will come out for T-Mobile & AT&T. The XPERIA supports 3G in UMTS/HSDPA and HSUPA (faster than HSDPA and in early deployment here in the US by AT&T)
